EVENT: Red Shoe Walk 2014
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2014
Have you seen the Big Red Shoes around town?
They belong to the Ronald McDonald House.
Each night they have 27 families of critically ill children, who have traveled to Charleston for treatment, calling this House a ‘home away from home’. The home offers these families comfortable beds, hot meals and a caring staff, all just steps from the hospital. It is through our support, that they are able to continue to help these families during their darkest times.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities empowers families by providing stability and vital resources so they can get and keep their child happy and healthy. By keeping families together, RMHC helps children heal faster and cope better.
Here’s the plan… Between now and October 25th, each participant is being asked to raise $1,600, the cost of running the House for 1 night. On average, the Charleston House turns away 8 families every night due to a lack of space. This year, they are expanding our home to help more families in need. They will be adding 5 bedrooms for a total of 32 rooms.
A year ago last Aug., I went for the 1st time with my Mom to the Ronald McDonald House and made breakfast on Saturday morning. We wore red shoes and made heart-shaped pancakes. I met some really cool families. Everybody was so nice to us and some showed us pictures of their babies in the hospital. We even got to wear some of Ronald's big red shoes! We started going every few months to make heart-shaped pancakes for Saturday breakfast, and even put chocolate chips in them now. Sometimes whole families are there - grandparents, even little kids. The only way they get to see their sick child in the hospital is because they can stay at the Ronald McDonald House. The only way the parents can be right by their sick child every day is to stay at the House. It's such a special place. The families are so grateful and relieved to be able to stay there.
I've already been knocking on doors raising money, but this is the biggest fund raiser I've ever done. Please help me make my goal so that more families can stay by their sick babies and not have to worry about anything but helping them get well.
Thanks and Love,
