Diabetic Alert Dog for Andrew
Organized by: Shannon Barrett
My 3 year old son Andrew Barrett needs help getting a Diabetic Alert Dog. Our son was fighting the biggest fight this last October and that was the fight for his life when local doctors misdiagnosed him with a Virus when in fact it was Type 1 Diabetes. We fought the local doctors diagnosis and took our son to the closest Pediatric Emergency Room which is 45 minutes from our home where we were told it was not a virus he is was a Type 1 Diabetic in Diabetic Ketoacidosis. We knew it was something greater as he had lost all color in his face and had dark rings around his eyes and I looked like death was just knocking on his door. We felt our son slipping away and yet felt completely frustrated that our local doctors would not listen to us when we told them we knew it was not a virus. We now live in fear everyday but especially at night that we will wake up with our son gone due to too low of blood sugars. So we are looking for help to get him a Diabetic Alert Dog which will sense and smell when his sugar is getting low and come get me so I can take care of him and keep him here with us. So please any amount you cab donate will go towards saving my sons life every night and every day.
