So it is that time again. Last year I started a new tradition with my boys, doing the Pittsburgh Marathon 5K. I had the honor last year of being alongside my friend Christine as she headed out for her first post chemotherapy run. It was an amazing experience for all of us. I cannot explain the emotions I felt as we jogged over the Clemente bridge - she was ahead in her red Gilda's Club shirt. A group cheered when they saw her shirt, then when she took off her cap, showing her head, still bald from chemo, the crowd roared. That is what this is all about - giving hope and support, until a cure is found.
From that point Christine and I continued to participate in many runs over the summer, and plan to do so again this year. She has had some medical setbacks this year, and as of today, can start to train again. So it is on! As far as my boys, Chris learned that he loved running, and has been running in other runs since that time. While running is not his thing, Ryan is even going to try to run the 5K (instead of speed walking) this year too! Please help by making a small donation to this great cause, for Gilda's Club, the organization that stood by my friend and her family during her battle. Thank you!
