As part of the CalFresh Challenge this year, I am raising money to support the work that the San Diego Hunger Coalition does to protect access to food for those that need it the most. Please support me by making a contribution! You should also follow my journey here.
What is the CalFresh Challenge? In California, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP - formerly food stamps) is known as CalFresh. Nearly 500,000 people in San Diego County do not have enough food for a healthy, active life and rely on CalFresh to provide food for their family. The CalFresh Challenge encourages participants to experience what life can be like for many of our neighbors who rely on CalFresh as they struggle to avoid hunger, afford nutritious food and stay healthy with very limited resources. In San Diego County, the average CalFresh allotment per person is only $4.18 per day or $20.92 for five days.
