I am organizing an informal walk/run (5k) at Independence Grove in Libertyville on June 17th to raise money for WINGS organzation, a domestic violence shelter located in Hoffman Estates/Chicago, IL. The money raised will be donated in memory of my Mom and all victims impacted by domestic violence.

The donations are routed directly to the WINGS organization through the crowdrise site. **Update, I've reached my original $1000, and then I reached $2000, and am now rasining my fundraising goal to 3000!!! Please help me do so to help bring more money to WINGS**
June 17th @ Independence Grove in Libertyville beginning at 11:30am. The start of the race will be at Mom's bench which is off of lot G overlooking the water. Join us afterwards for a team lunch (bring your own food+blanket/chair) at Diane's bench, picnic-style. Please bring a cooler if you plan on joining so your food stays fresh during the race.
I cannot say enough good things about WINGS and the work they do. They have so many wonderful programs in place to carry out their mission and support the individuals and families that are a part of the WINGS family
Check out http://wingsprogram.com/ for additional information and to view their most recent annual report.
I've added some of my own bullet points below about WINGS and what makes them such a strong organization. This also provides some insight on where your money is going in supporting their programs:
*WINGS has a 4-star rating on charity navigator which is the highest rating the site gives to charities.
*Almost 45% of revenue comes from contributions/gifts/grants.
*75% of their expenses are from program services.
*WINGS has several resale stores that not only support their clients, but also earn revenue for their organization. The stores are run by volunteers so WINGS saves on administrative costs.
*WINGS partners with hospitals in their area to provide immediate assistance to victims of domestic violence.
*WINGS has project lifeline which links the domestic violence graduates with community members as means of support after a life of domestic violence.
*WINGS developed ALAS, a program specific to Latinos women to provide support, development, and English proficiency.
*WINGS has 2 safe houses, 1 of which was just opened in 2015 and has 40 beds, the largest safe house in Chicago.
*WINGS has a speaker’s bureau where a staff member can come and speak to businesses. This provides for partnership and fundraising opportunities.
*WINGS offers DV training for individuals interested in supporting victims.
*WINGS has a childrens program that offers counseling, art therapy, goal setting, and relationship building.
