My name is DiAnna and for 7 years I have fostered cats for our county shelter. Through these years I myself have acquired cats with special needs. I have also helped to get more than 50 cats adopted out to good homes. Feral cats can come with some health problems and costs. I have a cat who had a stroke, one with epilepsy, one that just passed with colitis/liver disease and so many more issues. As the years have gone by I noticed three very real problems in our county. 1. Not enough shelters resulting in a high amount of euthanization. 2. Not enough people willing to take in special need kitties, resulting in euthanization. 3. Many community members being turned down for adoptions because of income status, this too resulting in euthanization. I am currently taking care of 11 cats that are my own and have a special bedroom in my house that I do my fostering in. Food and medicine can become costly even for me. I feel blessed to have experienced this as it has shown me what needs to be done. At this point I am asking for help in the care and management of my own babies (Just one of my babies I ended up keeping due to them wanting to euthanize him, cost me with medicine and bi-yearly testing alone $720 a year) This is my short term goal, to be able to continue to do my work at home. My long term goal however is to open a cat sanctuary that can house ill cats permanently that cannot be adopted out, a foster and adoption program and a clinic that not only will neuter and spay these angels, but also continue the needs and medical care for those who adopt on a sliding scale. This opens up more homes for these cats to be adopted out with the guarantee of being medically cared for. I would also branch out and ask major pet supply companies to assist in helping us keep our cabinets filled with food and supplies so those on lower incomes can have access to basic needs. I am truly the cat lady and have had up to 21 cats in my house due to no room at the shelters. Taking care of these angels is a passion of mine. I am currently finishing up my BS in Health Care Management so that I have the knowledge, wisdom and understanding needed to take on such a big enterprise. I have begun my grant writing and am now looking into property in the area and what I need to do to become an organization. All of this costs money and am asking for help from you to make this dream a reality.
