THE STORY:

More than 7,000 Ebola cases have been reported in West Africa since March, and almost 3,500 people have died. The outbreak has affected children in many ways—some have died, and others have been orphaned. Schools have closed. Fear is keeping children away from regular health services, including immunization.

UNICEF is stepping up its efforts across West Africa—in Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal and Sierra Leone—to prevent further spread of the Ebola virus, using mobile messaging and communication campaigns to counter misinformation about how the virus is transmitted.

Since March, UNICEF and its partners have reached at least 5.5 million people in West Africa, distributing essential supplies to health workers and affected communities.

Diaspora Women is raising funds for UNICEF to help Stop Ebola in West Africa. To help prevent Ebola's further spread, UNICEF is working to distribute essential medicine and reach millions with vital disease prevention information. All donations will be matched $1 for $1.
