Dignity:Liberia works with young women who suffer with Obstetric Fistula in the country of Liberia, West Africa. Obstetric Fistula is a birth injury which leads to uncontrollable leakage of body wastes resulting in unattractive odors. Many of the young girls are rejected by husbands, families, and friends and live in isolation and shame. A simple surgery can restore a life. The Civil War left many women with fistula's caused by sexual assault. It is our goal to help prevent fistula by building a Maternity Waiting Home where a young girl can wait for the birth of her child with Medical Staff that can attend the process and prevent prolonged labor resulting in a live birth and no fistula.
