Hi friends! For months now I've been eagerly awaiting my voyage this summer. Along with a group of 20 other students from across the country, I'll be traveling through New England organizing against climate change and fighting environmental injustice. To resist the fossil fuel industry and to strengthen my relationship with communities, I will be traveling exclusively by bicycle - upwards of 1,200 miles.
Climate change creates a stark injustice between people - most often, those who do the least to cause the issue will be affected by it the most. We're a generation of people ready to change and fight what's happening to the world around us, and it starts from the ground up - from community to community. In New England alone there are many new pipelines and power plants being proposed - the natural gas plant in Salem, MA, the Tennessee gas pipeline in the Pioneer Valley, the Enbridge-Trailbreaker pipeline carrying tar sands from Montreal to Portland, ME... Now more than ever New England needs to mobilize against this corporate dirty energy takeover of our land and communities.
Through this program, I will be able to fight against these projects, educate people on climate change, and work to build a future free of fossil fuels and injustice. We'll be living simply through the donations and generosity of local churches, but we still need your help to finance us for food expenses and to ensure the program can continue into the future. It is the support and dedication of our sponsors that keep this program alive, and keeps students able to dedicate their summers to organizing against climate change! Any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated.
