BENEFITING: UNITY 4 ORPHANS

Unity4 Orphans

THE STORY:

I am inspired to help some very deserving children who have been abandoned and neglected.

Will you join me in my mission to improve their quality of life in helping provide Nutritional Food and Clean Water? Please read my story, and why I am feeling led to give back in this way:

I sit and envision a 12 year little girl just having migrated to this great nation, fascinated by the “newness of it all,” and not really understanding that my life will be forever changed by the opportunities that I will be afforded here. Now, sitting in my balcony in beautiful San Diego, CA, I fill up with tears by the life I continue to be privileged to live. Clearly aware, I sit here by the force of the Divine God/Universe/Tao, which is perfect, filled with abundance and always working on my behalf. Also, recognizing that my constant Faith, Gratitude, Discipline, Dedication and Motivation have been core values throughout my journey. After serving this great nation in the armed forces for over 26 years, I now get to sit back, reflect, and on a daily basis ask the Universe: How may I continue to serve? How may I continue to give? What purpose do you have yet for me?

I found that among its other benefits giving liberates the soul of the giver. When you learn, teach. When you get, give”. -- Maya Angelou

I have found that contribution is one of the best ways to give back. Currently, I volunteer weekly with Feeding America here in the San Diego area. I also have become deeply involved with Unity 4 Orphans, a Non-Profit Organization which is currently passionately committed to improving the quality of life for orphans living in Mexico, Nicaragua and Colombia.

I clearly remember my 1st experience with Unity 4 Orphans back in December 2014. I got the amazing opportunity to cross the U.S. - Mexico border to help serve at one of Baja's poorest orphanages: La Tribu de Jesus in La Gloria, Tijuana, Mexico. What a privilege and gift I felt being able to be part of this experience. Once we crossed the gates of the orphanage I saw all these beautiful children running towards me and all I could do was open my arms and my heart.

I knew all that was needed…Love, Laughter, Compassion, and believe me, I was fully equipped to provide it all! To say I fell in love with the kids there is an understatement. Each trip allows for greater connection and bonding with the children, while also allowing me to contribute in the kitchen, and translating for our group. The needs for not just this orphanage in Tijuana, but also for the others, is quite great. And through my experiences, I've discovered simple ways to help, and feel more compelled than ever before to do so.

I have chosen to focus on two very important needs that are close to my heart:  Providing Food and Clean Water, through nutritional Meal Packs and Water Filters, for both the La Tribu in Baja & another childrens’ program that Unity 4 Orphans’ supports in Colombia called, “Colombia Sin Fronteras.”

Colombia Sin Fronteras is a cultural center for 250 children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its goals include providing a stable and safe place where the kids can come spend their days to improve their education, as key skills such as reading literacy, math, art and sports are developed, while also focusing on the development of the childrens’ social skills. In order to reach this goal, they rely on the help of volunteers and active participation from the local and international community to help secure itself a brighter future for these kids.

Why these two causes you may ask? First, the Tijuana orphanages, because I am directly involved as I serve there 1-2 times per month and continue to bond with many of the children. Colombia’s program (located in rural area of Santa Marta), has also deeply touched me, because as you know Colombia is my homeland, and I have always been closely attached to causes and ways to help my beloved countrymen. And seeing the vulnerable children in these two countries go without clean water and food breaks my heart, as there are simple and efficient ways we can help. The food packets and water filters that I am fundraising for are powerful and effective. (Please read the info at the bottom of this page for the details of both of these life-changing, and life-saving resources.)

The cost of these amazing high protein, vitamin enriched meals is just .25 per serving; and our hope is to make 20,000 of these nutritional meals, at a cost of $5,000. U4O has already raised $3,500. So, my goal is to fund the balance of $1,500.

My goal for the water filters is to raise $1,000 to purchase 12 of these incredible filters. 2 will be given to the orphanage in Tijuana, and with the remaining 10, will be used to launch a Clean Water Project in Colombia, to ensure these kids can drink safely without concern of disease or death.

Total Goal of My Fundraiser: $2,500

Every child deserves clean water & proper nutrition! Your support in this very important fundraiser will have a ripple effect in so many lives.  When we help others we are helping ourselves because "We Are One".

Giving authentically & lovingly is powerful beyond measure.  No amount is too small.  From the bottom of my soul and on behalf of all these beautiful children, we say, "THANK YOU!"

Namaste,

Dinorah

Important facts related to both the Nutritional Food Packs and the Water Filters:

Nutritional Meal Packages -

Every minute 12 children die from starvation.

Unity 4 Orphans is partnering with Friends & Family Community Connection to package these special meals that contain all the nutritional requirements undernourished children need for physical and mental development. One food package contains 6 high-protein, vitamin enriched servings. Each package is prepared in less than 20 minutes by adding it to boiling water. One box contains 36 packages and feeds 216 children. One pallet contains 66 boxes with 2,376 packages and feeds 14,256 children! The food is a rice and soy mix fortified with 21 vitamins and minerals, 6 dehydrated vegetables and seasoning. This soy (52% protein) and nutrient rich formula reverses the starvation process and its effects. All of our meals are packaged by individuals and volunteers from churches, businesses, families, and youth groups. The distribution of the food will be done through our outreach service trips to orphanages in Baja & Colombia. And the best part of this food packaging program is that we can feed a child a protein rich and vitamin-enriched healthy meal for less than .25 a meal! We will be hosting an event in August where several hundred volunteers will come together to work hand in hand to assemble these meals, and distribution throughout orphanages will begin immediately. We have already tested these meals at three orphanages in Baja, two in Nicaragua, and one in Colombia, and they have received rave reviews. We have seen these same meals distributed successfully by the millions to villages in Africa and Haiti, and are excited to expand this program to orphanages in other countries.
