A little background: Resolve works in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo with people most affected by ongoing violence to empower them to rebuild their communities and build peace. My college friend Vijaya and her team (mostly Congolese community organizers and past beneficiaries) use a participatory approach, training participants to do conflict resolution and start businesses so they have a steady source of income and an alternative to joining militant groups.
I've been away from Resolve for a few years but when Vijaya asked me to return to the board i was excited partly because she and her team are really data-driven, doing interviews and surveys of thousands of people to understand the baseline and post-intervention experiences of their beneficiary communities. They've worked with over 1,500 people directly and indirectly impacted more through the community-wide programs that are funded through Resolve.
