When a child's basic needs are not met, their ability to succeed in the classroom is greatly hindered.
The Finance Department at DiscoverOrg has teamed up for a wonderful cause this October. Please read on to learn more about this high-impact organization.
Evergreen Public Schools has 14 Family & Community Resource Centers (FCRCs) located in highpoverty elementary schools. The goal of the FCRCs is to help all children be successful. We do this by helping families with basic needs and connecting them to community supports and services. Each FCRC has access to clothing, food, school supplies, shoes, toiletries, and other essential items and provides direct referrals to programs that help with medical and dental needs, job assistance, legal aid, early childhood education, housing programs and much more.
Nearly 1,100 students in Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) were identified as homeless last school year, many of them staying in temporary doubled-up situations, emergency shelters, and in some cases sleeping outside. Many families felt the squeeze of rising rents and had to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table. In desperate situations, families weren't able to pay electricity and water bills and had to try and get through the winter months without these essential services. Families struggle to get by and often turn to the school for help. Your generous donation will go directly to support students and families in EPS and will help fill in the gaps to ensure that our student's basic needs are met.
Last school year, the FCRCs provided 2,974 families with food assistance, 2,014 students received clothing, 898 pairs of shoes were given out, 404 families received help with baby formula and diapers. In some instances, funds were used to help keep a family's power from being turned off in the middle of winter; tarps and tents were purchased for a homeless family living out in the elements; new clothes were provided for a student who was placed into foster care and not able to bring anything from home; and prescription glasses were purchased for a child after learning there was a need. Your generous donation today will allow us to continue to provide these services and supports to the children and families in our community.
