BENEFITING: NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS ASSOCIATION

ORGANIZER: Jennifer

EVENT DATE: Mar 10, 2012

Joan Zammett

THE STORY:

Jennifer Martin wrote -

This fundraiser will help girls who are fighting for their lives in order to recover from their Eating Disorder.

All the proceeds will go directly to the National Eating Disorder Association. NEDA supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care.

According to the National Eating Disorder Associaion (NEDA), "Eating disorders do not have one single  cause. They are thought to be a combination of long standing behavioral, biological, emotional, psychological, interpersonal, and social factors."

I have learned in psycotherapy that we should treat our disorder as if it is a person ;one that has never wanted us to be happy. It is a person that convinces us we are worthless. A person that verbually abuses us ever single day of our lives. We call this person "Ed" and we need to stop letting "him" take control of how we feel about ourselves. He is a liar, manipulator and a coward. It is shown that most girls will treat "Ed" as a male figure and use this technique as a way to remove themselves from this horrible relationship they are in. Ed is the worst husband a girl can have and no girl should think she has to be married to Ed her entire life.

My hope for this campaign is to help girls who are sick of being sick and give them the support they need to be able to "Divorce Ed."

"Enough is enough Ed, I do not love you anymore. We are getting a divorce."

This cognitive way of thinking has helped me through every meal, every purge, every binge for the past year and I want to share the experience with all of you who are suffering from this mental disease.
