Dixie's Have A Heart
Organized by: Dixie Hamilton
I was recently made aware of a heartbreaking situation. I share a booth at the South Bend, In Farmer's Market with two friends. We have the sweetest person next to our booth who sells baked goods. I would never have guessed that her husband has been on the "heart transplant list " for sometime now. Their financial situation has become dyer. Her husband is in his forties & can no longer afford his prescription medications to help maintain his heart until one becomes available. When the hospital discovered this they took him off the list saying if he couldn't continue with his meds he could not be on the list for a life saving heart transplant. This poor man has been served a "death sentence " The hospital did not offer to assist with meds that could sustain his life until a heart became available. Even worse, some one who was terminally ill stepped up to offer his heart. The heart upon death was harvested. The hospital then informed the man that since he wasn't on "the list" he could not receive the heart! I don't know what happened to it, but you can imagine the pain these folks are experiencing. They do not know that I am doing this & I have no idea if it will help? I just know how desperate they are. These are just your average working class people who pay their taxes, live frugally, & trust in God. I had to do something, anything that might help to save the life of a good man. Please help if you can.
