DJ's Drop In Center for LGBTQ adults
Organized by: Shawn Kronos
More than 34,000 people die by suicide each year," making it "the third leading cause of death among 15 to 24 year olds with lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth attempting suicide up to four times more than their heterosexual peers. #ItGetsBetter. We want to help it get better! I am starting a drop in center for homeless or 'underhomed' LGBTQ adults. The center will provide a place for people to get out of the adverse weather, resources for finding training, jobs, and housing, take care of personal hygiene needs like showers and shaving, and a warm place to hang out with like individuals in a safe environment. We hope to have other professionals from around the city to come in and let the guests use or at least, learn about their services, i.e: Housing Authority, crisis centers, counselors, career advisors, school administrators, and other LGBT groups like SMYRC and the Q Center. We want to make this a 501.c.3 non profit. This costs at least 850 dollars. We would also like to stock up on hygiene supplies and foodstuffs, as well as 2 computers for job and housing searches.
