Feel like doing some good on your day off with other amazing people? Then come join me and 1500 others to transform a school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day-AmeriCorps national day of service. Your 5 hour participation on this one day will cumulate to giving this South LA school 2.57 years of love- 8 hour days, 365 days a year. How can you say no to that?
This crowdrise page is really just your invitation for January 19th. Fundraising is not required to participate in this day, just registration through this site so we know you are coming.
What will you do on MLK Day? You will get to paint alongside 300 City Year AmeriCorps Members, 50 City Year staff members, and a 1000 volunteers from colleges, corporate partnerships, and our friends and family. Hear about the stories of our volunteers, learn about what others are doing around LA, and get your hands a bit dirty by painting inspirational murals, quotes, and college logos.
Where will this take place and how long will the day be? You will be in South LA at the Diego Rivera Learning Complex, located at 6100 South Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90001. The event will be from 9am-2pm, lunch, snacks and water will be provided. Check in begins at 8:15am.
What should you wear? Clothes you don't mind getting paint that won't wash out on. Shoes that are comfortable and that you would also not mind getting a speck or two of paint on. If it's sunny, you may want to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat (some painting projects will be outside).
Always an early bird? Join us for Family Coffee Hour at 8am, where you will meet our Executive Director, Mary Jane Stevenson, and mingle with other members of the City Year family.
Further questions? Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hope to see you there!
