I trained and ran my first marathon in 1998. Running is an important part of my life and has become a big part of who I am. Marathon running has taught me that when things feel like they are at a breaking point and I want to give up, I need to dig deep and keep moving forward. I believe this mind set has helped me in all areas of my life and has given me the confidence that I can overcome any obstacle that I am faced with.
20 years after starting, I have completed 44 marathons. Running a marathon requires months of dedication and training leading up to the race. There are many obstacles to overcome and typically you are faced with setbacks that challenge your dedication to the sport. I have always been amazed by athletes who tackle this challenge that have an additional obstacle of overcoming a disability. For many years I have promised myself that at some point I would dedicate my efforts to helping someone with a disability complete a marathon.
For 2018, I have been blessed to be selected to run with Team With a Vision in the Boston Marathon. This team is part of the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI). Their goal is to help people who are visually impaired to achieve independence in life. The majority of MABVI’s clients are low income elders who are experiencing vision loss for the first time and do not have any adaptive strategies for independent living.
Team With a Vision works with visually impaired athletes from around the world and provides support to bring them to Boston to run the Marathon. The funds raised through Team With a Vision’s participation in the Boston Marathon support MABVI.
As part of this team I have committed to raising $7,500 through charitable donations to support their mission. To kick off the fund raising, Randy and I have started our efforts by personally donation $250.
Will you please support me in this cause? Any size donation will help me achieve the goal to support this charity.
Thank you for your generous contribution!
