BENEFITING: DANCE MARATHON
EVENT DATE: Mar 28, 2015
Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan (DMUM), is one of the largest student-run non-profit organizations on campus that raises money and awareness for pediatric rehabilitation programs sponsored at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. On March 28th 2015, I will be standing on my feet for 24 consecutive hours with over 1,000 of my fellow students, friends, and the kids to support the families and children who benefit directly from the programs we raise money for!
This is my 2nd year in Dance Marathon, and as a dancer I aim to raise at least $1000 for the many physical and occupational therapy programs we support, which help the kids conquer physical challenges that are not so challenging for everyone else. One of the great aspects of this program is that each team is also paired with a family in need of these services. Last year my team was paired with the family of a girl named Katie who has a rare genetic deletion on her Chromosome 15 which lead to some developmental disabilities including autism, ADHD, and a great deal of anxiety. Last weekend I attended our annual Pumpkin Carving and I can honestly say that these children could not be more deserving of the proceeds from our marathon. They are all so sweet and have shown me how strong they can be in the face of their difficult situations. Without support from DMUM, many of the therapies would not exist. Over the past seventeen years DMUM has raised over $5 million, with over $446,000 raised last year alone! As we embark on our 20th year, we have set our sights even higher!
To help us accomplish our mission of changing the lives of these inspiring kids and their families, I am asking for your support. Your contribution will not only support pediatric rehabilitation, it will also help kids like Katie be able to do something they’ve never been able to do before, such as climbing a tree or horseback riding.
If you would like more information about DMUM, please feel free to either contact me or visit the Dance Marathon website, www.DMUM.org. You can also donate online by visiting our website and click on the “Donate” link, then search “Amanda Grayson” and follow the steps.
In Dance Marathon, our mission and passion is to do everything we can FOR THE KIDS! At the end of this amazing journey, I will stand for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these kids. What would you stand for?
