Every year, millions of children and adults die of common diseases due to lack of access to medical treatment. Doctors Without Borders is an organization that has helped save millions of lives across the world, and more doctors are desperately needed to keep this organization going. This fundraising call is to support physician-in-training Dawit T. Tadesse. Dawit was born and raised in Southern Ethiopia in a highly disadvantaged rural area, witnessing the deaths of his loved ones to treatable diseases; this included his three year old brother to cholera and his mother to malaria when he was just 17 years old. At 19 years of age, Dawit immigrated to the United States as a refugee, with the dream of becoming a physician to join Doctors Without Borders. Needless to say that the faces of his brother and mother have resonated stronger with heart beat in motivating him to pursue his dream of saving the lives of individuals in similarly dire conditions. Through incredible determination and hard work, Dawit earned a Bachelors of Science in chemistry and successfully completed the first three years of medical school in a prestigious university.

Two months ago, Dawit faced the devastating news that his financial aid was discontinued, and despite significant, relentless effort to reach out, he has not been able to secure enough money to pay for his tuition and finish his training. It is the uncessary shedding of a dream that truly matters that you and I cannot allow to happen. Without your help, Dawit will never be able to return to school to finish this priceless fight. What can you do today to help him complete the rest of his training and take part in our global efforts to make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate than us? This fundraiser is not just a step in supporting him and key organizations as Doctors Without Borders; it is also a statement you and I can make about resilience and human capacity to use one’s own suffering to generate energies of compassion and determination to protect others from misery. As Ghandi expressed, the change we wish to see in the world begins with you and me; change begins with education; this is your opportunity to express this voice in support of this fundraiser. Your contribution matters.
