EVENT DATE: Nov 12, 2011
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Nov 12, 2011
Will you become a volunteer dancer and help prevent & manage diabetes?
The Dance-a-thon will fund our 2012 programs. We’re asking you to help our community by participating in the event and getting a few sponsors in order to make our 2012 programs free!
How to Participate:
1. Dancers register for the event ($10).
2. Fundraise by either:
a. donating to an existing team (scroll down to the bottom of this page to see teams on the "Team Leadership Board") or
b. starting " a Team on Your Own" to garner donations from friends and family (donations are tax-deductible!).
Credit card donations are processed on Amazon.
3. Celebrate your efforts at the Dance-a-thon along with other people who care to change the diabetes epidemic.
You can register solo or start a team with your friends. A dance team is two or more individuals (the more the merrier!). Each individual on any team (regardless of size) pays $10 to participate. In order to effectively reach our community members in need, we ask that you set fundraising goal of $50.
$25 Two Step
$50 Twist (choice of DOD merchandise)
$250 Hip Hop
$1,000 Quick Step (you get to dedicate one of our monthly dances)
$2,500 Tango (a dance is held in your honor)
As a thank you for helping to raise money for such a good cause, participants get to come to a fun event, dance, be with old friends or make new ones, enjoy an awesome DJ, be treated to some yummy finger food and beverages, pick up some beautiful art at our silent auction, learn about the latest diabetes treatments, get screened for diabetes if you’d like, and maybe win a few prizes… all in the incredible art deco building at the Russian Center, 2460 Sutter Street (btw. Divisadero & Broderick) in S.F., CA 94115.
Both individuals and teams are eligible for each category below:
1. Best Name (design your dance team name, whether for a group or an individual, on an 8 x 11 ½ sheet of paper to display during the event)
2. Best Dance (choreograph your own number to one of three pre-selected songs: “You Should Be Dancing” – Bee Gees; “Wanna Be Starting Something” – Michael Jackson; “Bad Romance” — Lady Gaga)
3. Most Money Raised
4. Most Number of Years Living with Diabetes
5. Best Costume (optional of course)

We are proud to be joined by our friends at the Diabetes Hands Foundation for this event!
