Dog in Need
Organized by: Steven Vargas
EVENT DATE Jul 10, 2014
Memphis is an adorable five year old Border Collie mix who was found lying on a porch of an abandoned house on June 24, 2014. After inquiring from the neighbors Memphis's owners had moved over two months ago and did not care to bring their fateful companion along. They had left him in the yard shackled to a shed where no one could find him. After many cold and lonely nights, Memphis freed himself by chewing through his metal chains only to find out that the family he loved was gone. Not knowing what to do he decided to wait by his former home until his family return. There he waited patiently for over two months surviving on the scraps from the neighbors not knowing that he was slowly dying. He was loyal to his family and nothing would stand in his way, fleas, ticks, biting flies, or starvation.
Memphis excitedly greeted everyone who had visited the house, which was now available for rent. He would run up the driveway frantically wagging his tail, however his poor condition often frighten them away and he would return to the porch and continue to wait. When Memphis was finally rescued, he cried and wined as his rescuers had to carry him away from his porch.
Memphis was taken to a local vet who determined that he was heavily infested with parasites, not to mention that he was 20lbs underweight. Weak and dehydrated Memphis had contracted a severe case of heartworm and was put on antibiotics immediately. In order to help him through the rehabilitation process, Memphis was taken to Chicago where he will receive around the clock care by his new foster family. However his recovery would be long, difficult, and costly. Just the heartworm treatment alone will cost his new foster parents over $900 dollars, not to mention the cost of medication, and dental work. It is estimated that a full recovery will cost somewhere between $1000-1200, 75% of which must be paid before his first treatment on July 30, 2014.
In order for Memphis to make a full recovery he needs your help. Please make a small donation to help cover Memphis’s vets bill. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. You can help give him a second chance at a new life with a loving family.
