Organized by: Charith Abeyratne
This year, the proceeds of Sapphire will go towards TRAIL and HELA SARANA.
TRAIL - Expanding the Cancer Unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital
An international movement for a national cause.
The movement: Walk. Heal. Unite.
80,000 Sri Lankans from all walks of life joined a journey from Point Pedro (northern most point) to Dondra Head (southern most point) of the island in an effort to raise a goal of $5million. So far 78% has been raised.
The cause: The expansion and building of a cancer treatment facility at the Karapitiya teaching hospital in Galle. It is the most accessed healthcare centre in the south of Sri Lanka and has also recorded the highest number of cancer related deaths. It is understaffed, over capacity and in dire need of expansion.
Although we may not have been able to join the walk, we are still part of the movement uniting all Sri Lankans behind a single cause.
HELA SARANA - Student Grant Project
Sapphire is organised by students from Imperial College London. We have had the privilege of benefiting from an education that many children in Sri Lanka do not have access to.
We believe that nothing should stand in the way of a chid’s right to education.
Sapphire is committed to sponsoring 100 children from the … district? through Hela Sarana’s “Student Grant Project” by the end of the year. We want to empower them to escape from a viscous cycle of poverty and inequality.
We believe that you too appreciate the importance of education. Please help the children of … district?
