BENEFITING: DOGS HELPING HEROES INC
Dogs Helping Heroes is a new nonprofit, established in 2013, dedicated to helping restore lost freedom and peace of mind to Kentuckiana heroes and their families by providing trained rescue dogs. The organization has created a virtuous process to rescue dogs, help rehabilitate local prison inmates by engaging them to help train the dogs, and then restore a sense of freedom to veterans and first responders by pairing them with a service dog. The recipients stay involved with the organization and pay it forward by doing outreach to other wounded heroes. Most of the recipients have been suffering from the debilitating effects of Traumatic Brain Injury or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from their service in the military or as a first responder, robbing them of the ability to lead a normal life due to fears of crowds, loud noises, and other triggers. Over time, this withdrawal has robbed them of the very freedom and liberty for which they served. Receiving a specially trained service dog enables them to have the confidence and comfort to know that their dog will keep them safe and assist them if an attack is coming on. Sadly, the need for this type of service animal is great. We know that with the help of this community we can raise awareness and funds to support our work. Here are three ways your donation can help our efforts: 1) It will help us pay for the training of the dogs and recipients, 2) It will help us with outreach and rescue of service dogs, and 3) It will help our outreach efforts with veterans and first responders who need to know about our work.
