URGENT HELP to rebuild a struggling South African School!
Organized by: Shane Zammit
My name is Shane, I am 25 and live in Melbourne, Australia.
I have recently come to South Africa for 2 months and during my travels I have had the amazing opportunity to meet and work within the local community.
On the 12/06/2014 I attended Clarence Primary School, this is a local Primary School in Durban, South Africa that is government funded and is in desperate need of funds, supplies and resources.
During my stay at the school I had the amazing opportunity to meet with the local kids who attend Clarence Primary School, I also had the opportunity to sit with them, talk to them, help them read and write as well as talk to them about Australia.
It was while I was doing that I was informed that due to the roof in one of the classrooms collapsing and destroying that room, rendering it useless, the class in that room had to be moved to a hall where they would have to share the hall with the other kids for recreation. This was the same hall where I was working with the kids, they had partitioned off a small are with cupboards to form a classroom space for a cramped class of 50 kids.
While trying to work, and read, the teacher with the kids in the now temporary classroom in the hall was battling to try and scream over all the noise in the hall.
Due to the Poor funding and the desperate need for what funds the school does have to go to other areas the time frame to raise the funds to rebuild this class room is set to be in the years...
The government doesn't see it as a priority and coming from a 1st world country where this issue would be fixed in a week shocked me. This issue aside, just the basic recourses within the school are bare and basic and in desperate need of upgrade and attention, however with no funds the school has no room to move forward in building a better learning environment for the children.
I am now on a mission to try and raise as much money as I can to assist in the urgent repair of this classroom and buy supplies for the school or find someone who can donate a classroom portable building, building supplies and school resources, or if you own a building company and you will donate your time and resources to help rebuild them please contact me at my email: email@example.com
Every cent helps, I know first hand what can be achieved with a great education and no child based on the socio economic upbringing deserves to suffer a poor education or have there education and learning ability effected because its school has no funds to provide an adequate and safe learning space.
I am asking everyone to please help me with this, pass this on to family and friends, share it on face book and twitter, Lets get these kids some well deserved help, lets rebuild a classroom and give this school the resources its so badly lacking, LETS DO IT FOR THE KIDS in 2014!
