In 2000, Sister Mary Alice Hannan founded the non-profit organization Desda's Grate which serves the needs of homeless single women and women with children in New Rochelle. The shelter aims to help the mothers gain a sense of independence, and actively create and achieve their goals. It is a place that allows single mothers peace of mind knowing their children are safe while they pursue their education and/or job search. Every summer, money is raised in order to provide the children of Desda's Grate the opportunity to attend summer camp. Not only is this camp something that the children look forward to each year, but it also serves as an outlet for working mothers or mothers attending school, as it ensures that their children are taken care of throughout the summer days. However, this year we have fallen short of about $7,000 to send the children to summer camp.
With your fundraising help, we can help Sister Mary Alice achieve her goal and help send the boys and girls of Desda's Grate to the summer camps they so much enjoy. Again thank you for any and all efforts. No amount is too small, and every dollar counts.
