EVENT: 2017 Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge Division I
THE STORY:
CREATING LEADERSHIP IN IMMIGRANT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS.
DWDC-New Dawn/Nuevo Amanecer Program was founded in 1998 with the Mission of empowering Latina women who are survivors of intimate partner violence. Through our 24-hour crisis intervention hotline, individual counseling, support groups, advocacy, assistance with crime victim compensation and Leadership Empowerment Training, Nuevo Amanecer/New Dawn assists immigrant participants in gaining control and making informed decisions about their lives.
The Goal of this campaign is to help our program participants, survivors of domestic violence become financially self-sufficient. Your donation will directly benefit our Leadership Empowerment Training Initiative. The Purple Purse Challenge will allow us to financially empower Survivors who have graduated from our Leadership Empowerment Training where they become Peer Advocates for other Survivors in need, as well as co-facilitating workshops in their communities and internal support groups. During 6 week sessions, Survivors strengthen their knowledge about domestic violence, create awareness, promote gender equality, community advocacy and share resources available to victims. Since the creation of this initiative 33 Immigrant DV Survivors have successfully graduated and continue to be active in their communities.
The possibility to create a source of financial empowerment to DV Survivors in the near future is a leap towards creating safe communities and end domestic violence.
