BENEFITING: ALS GUARDIAN ANGELS FOUNDATION
Heather Fieler wrote -
I am planning to raise money for the ALS Guardian Angels, a foundation dedicated to giving financial aid to families of victims of ALS, a fatal disease, which most people know nothing about. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. It is a neuromuscular disease which destroys those nerves that “tell” the muscles what to do. As a result, muscles atrophy and literally die, leaving the victim completely paralyzed, unable to talk, eat or breathe, all while the mind remains lucid and sharp. Tragically, there is no treatment or cure for ALS and the usual survival rate averages two to five years. Unlike cancer or diabetes, this disease gets little attention from the media, so we need your help to bring awareness and raise money to help these families.
I have been Dominic Cumo’s Home School Teacher for the past two years; second and third grades. Next year he will be a fourth grader! Dominic has been diagnosed with ALS. The picture above is from a field trip we took in December of 2011 to the Page Museum and La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California. Dominic is a future Paleontologist! Dominic's joy for life, positive outlook and use of humor every day I believe has slowed his progression with this disease. He is definitely an inspiration to anyone that meets him! Pictured are Dominic’s parents; Shawnee and Matteo, his award-receiving service dog Kipper, and me.
ALS Guardian Angels is a foundation that helps families like Dominic’s, who can’t pay their bills or afford equipment needed for the ALS patient, due to the horrific results of this disease. I want to help this foundation continue its work.
I am asking corporate and personal sponsors who will help “give back” to ALS Guardian Angels. Your donation made to ALS Guardian Angels Foundation in the form of a check for the Walk is tax deductable. Donations $500 or above will receive website recognition and advertising at the WALK.
The ALS Guardian Angels Walk will be held on September 22nd, 2012 at William R. Mason Park, 18712 University Dr, Irvine, Ca. 92612. Check-in: 8:30AM. Walk begins at 10:00AM. As many walkers possible are welcome. If you have a loved one that you would like to walk in honor or memory of, please join me.
Thank you for your interest and contribution!
Sincerely, Heather P. Fieler
