BENEFITING: WUNDERGLO FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 20, 2013
As many of you know, I serve as an advisory board member to The WunderGlo Foundation, a nonprofit started by my good friend from Duke, Gloria Borges. Gloria, who has battled Stage IV colon cancer for almost 2.5 years with unmatched intensity and drive, has started an initiative called The Wunder Project (http//www.thewunderproject.org). Her goal: to raise $250 million to fund research that will lead to the cure for colon cancer and other types of cancer. It's one of the boldest initiatives ever in the fight to find a cure for cancer.
So I wanted to do my part...and to do that, I decided that a bold project deserves a bold fundraiser in response. So, I have registered for the 2013 Detroit International Half Marathon on October 20th! It's without a doubt something that I never thought I would do, but I believe so firmly in the goal of The Wunder Project that I will run to new heights--or, in this case, lengths--to support it. My goal is 2 hrs 45 mins, but like Gloria in life, I hope to set that barrier and then Hulk Smash through it!
My goal: raise $2500 for The Wunder Project. Every little bit counts! The Wunder Project will receive 100% of the money donated, and all of that money goes directly to fund cancer research. It's that simple! Get creative with it! If you want to make an initial donation and then double it if I meet some milestone on race day, have at it! If 125 people give just $20 (all donations are tax-deductible), the goal will be met in no time. However, any type of generosity is equally important and greatly appreciated as you support me through this challenge.
I hope you all will support me as I set out to run about 10 miles further than I ever have at one time in my life, and I hope in the process, you can help The Wunder Project towards a goal that could one day help save so many lives!
To learn more about The Wunder Project, head to their website, Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/thewunderproject), Twitter (twitter.com/wunderglo), and subscribe to the blog (http://www.wunderglo.com/). More importantly, spread this to everyone you know so they can get in on the fight to cure colon cancer!
Cancer, your time is up!
