UPDATE: I have created a flyer and uploaded it here: https://postimg.org/image/n3lrlbrg7/
I spoke with many storefront shops outside Trinity Bellwoods and they have all posted the flyers. If you wanted to help out, you can download the image and share it with your favorite shop.
I have also been in contact with the family. The funds that we raise will be used towards funeral costs and the expenses to reunite the man's body with his family.
On June 17, 2016, a French man needlessly died by my side after a large tree branch fell from a tree and crushed him. I was one of three who performed CPR on the victim. A beautiful day in the park, lounging around after an afternoon bike ride, turned deadly in mere seconds. All bystanders were equally affected, as this is a tragedy that did not need to happen. Being the last to perform CPR, my final thoughts before I handed the scene over to paramedics stick with me. No warning, no wind, no reason, why did this happen? Information I learned that evening, was that the man and wife were from France, newly pregnant and working in Toronto on work permits. With a whole new adventure ahead of them, I can only imagine life was great. We never think to look up and assess the trees we sit under. Yet, this tragedy unfolded and forever changed this woman and child's life. It is said the man pushed his wife out of the way of the falling branch, which ultimately took his life. Recent discussions state that city Aborists had previously assessed the trees in the park and warned the city. Why was nothing done? Imagine, just for a moment, not being able to say goodbye, not being able to say "I love you" one more time, not being there for your child's birth. These thoughts run through my mind, could we have done more? Would any of it made a difference? Sadly we will never know. I am starting this fundraising campaign for the family of the husband, for his wife and unborn child. A small act of kindness that I hope will show compassion to the family. Surely there are others with similar thoughts to my own, so please help this family in any way possible and donate today.
