We Will Repair The Tent!

BENEFITING: Sierra Nevada Childrens Museum
February 7, 2017
We are heartbroken today to be asking you for urgent support for KidZone Museum in Truckee/Tahoe (children’s museum) to continue operations. Due to recent damage to our facility structure, the Museum tent covering has ripped in many places, compromising the integrity of the building. The extreme winter with so much wind, weather, and snow has created significant damage. Our board and staff are doing everything they can to find a solution to move or repair our tent and raise funds to quickly continue operations. This is an emergency situation.
The museum has served families for over 24 years. Can you imagine, if we don’t have a KidZone Museum in Truckee/Tahoe? Where will those families with little children go to escape the isolation, cold, and loneliness that are common to our region? What about the 40% of children up here who live in poverty and visit the museum and attend KidZone camps at no charge. What will our children do if there is no place to play, explore and learn?
We are an integral part of student success in our schools. We support their learning with programs and free transportation to the museum. Our support is critical for hands-on informal learning experiences that strengthen our children’s development, literacy skills, critical thinking, and science inquiry development. A grandmother talked to me the other day and said that her grandson is in the GATE program (Gifted and Talented) at his school because of the time he spent at the museum, problem-solving, thinking and creating. We have to be here for our kids and the 24,000 visitors a year that walk in our doors.
Our building has always been a temporary structure for our museum until we could find a permanent home. Our board and staff began preparing in earnest since 2015 to build relationships across the community and launch a capital campaign. We’ve made headway and have lots to be thankful for - strong volunteers, a growing group of financial supporters, innovative programs and exhibits, all leading to a devoted audience that keeps growing. What has not been easy is finding a place to call our permanent home.
The real solution, that this urgency makes crystal clear, is we need a permanent home today and we need your help. As our board undertakes immediate decisions and long-term strategy, we are looking for connections and real opportunities for space and funding.

You can donate here, or contact me by email and I will schedule a time to talk with you at your convenience.
Please help us create a permanent home where transformational learning experiences connect children and families from every walk of life, and create innovative thinkers who contribute to the collective well-being of others and the environment in which we live. We need this.
