BENEFITING: Donate Life Connecticut
ORGANIZER: Donate Life Connecticut
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2014
I'm running the 5K in memory of James Goodman. On March 15, I said goodbye to not just a great friend but a brother. He was a great inspiration and great leader in my career and my life and I will always be thankful for him.
James Goodman was an active volunteer with Donate Life Connecticut following his liver transplant at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital in January 2008. Jim enjoyed many years of health with his wife, Sue and their two young sons, Alan & Christopher. The family spent quality time together cheering on the boys at their football games and watching their favorite professional teams, the Mets and Green Bay Packers.
Jim had a strong desire to give back and give thanks to his organ donor. he celebrated his renewed health by volunteering at educational and outreach events. One of his favorite places to volunteer was at the University of Bridgeport Donate Life basketball game! Additionally, Jim shared his transplant story with his colleagues in the insurance industry, inspiring many of them to register as donors and support the cause financially.
In 2013, Jim was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis and was listed for a lung transplant. He received the transplant in September 2013, but unfortunately, never regained his health. Sadly, Jim passed away in March 2014. We remember and honor Jim and his passion for spreading organ and tissue donation education.
Right here in Connecticut more than 1,405 men, women and children wait for a life-saving transplant...and more than 122,000 Americans wait nationwide. Unfortunately, 18 people will die every day simply because an organ did not come in time. We want to change these statistics. More registered donors means more transplants...MORE LIVES SAVED.
Please consider making a donation in memory of James Goodman.
