BENEFITING: Generation Ubuntu
EVENT DATE: Nov 15, 2013
I helped start an organization by the name of Ubuntu Africa (UBA) - an amazing not-for-profit lead by Whitney Johnson that provides critical support and services to HIV+ children in South Africa. At UBA we are all about 'Ubuntu', the African philosophy of humanity and interconnectedness. It means "I am because We Are" and teaches us all to care for one another.
In honor of this year's World AIDS Day (December 1st) we are asking everyone to live this spirit of Ubuntu as we come close to our national day of Thanksgiving and join us in raising awareness and funds for our collective children....not just because they need our help, not just because its the right thing to do, but because its our responsibility to care for one another - because its what makes us human and that makes life worth living.
Plus for every $500 dollars raised, I'm going to pledge to do something really silly, stupid and humiliating or fun. After the first $500 is raised, I will release a hideous photo of myself taken at a recent Vampire party and by the time we get to $1k, I will serve drinks and send kisses to anyone who wants to come over to my apt. in Bklyn on 11/15, which is my adopted Ubuntu day for this campaign. I will also match whatever you all give to this cause.
Join our global campaign - and our ambassadors in Canada, the UK, Germany, South Africa and all around the United States and share the concept of Ubuntu with your friends and family and give whatever you can.
