I am a passionate advocate for Veteran causes and I love the Army Ten Miler. Why - because I have met so many wonderful Veterans, along with their family members and friends that do what ever it takes to give back to their brothers and sisters. It is the least I can do to give back to this community who protect the freedoms that I find so valuable. There are two special Veterans that have meant so much to me I would be remiss if I did not mention them. First, Ivan Castro, a blind Soldier I met at my first Army Ten Miler in 2010 - I was in awe of his positive spirit and ability to run 10 miles with his guide (you have to check out all he has done - marathons, extreme challenges - he never quits)! I saw him at this years Boston Marathon in Natick and was able to give him a quick hug - lucky me! Then of course there is Justin Fitch, a young Soldier I met while I worked as a Civilian for the Army. Shortly after I met Justin he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and given 6 months to live - his true Warrior Spirit kept him going for 4 more years - God Bless him! Justin was a passionate advocate for preventing Veteran Suicide - I learned so much from him - my love for him and everything I learned from him will make light work of my short 10 miles.
I can't wait to see who I meet this year!
