We are The New York Milk Bank, a nonprofit organization located in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
Women who are breastfeeding their babies and have a surplus of breast milk are carefully screened before donating their milk to us. We pasteurize it and then distribute it to other babies in need. The most important recipients are preemies who are prescribed donor milk (as opposed to formula) because it prevents a devastating intestinal disease called necrotizing enterocolitis that kills 100 infants in New York each year.
We are processing 1100 ounces of milk each week, and providing an important service to the community. However, we urgently need to expand our facilities and need your help. Medicaid will begin reimbursing hospitals for donor breast milk on January 1, and we expect this to greatly expand the use of donor milk.
If you care about medical causes, children's causes, or had your own personal experiences with breastfeeding, we are hoping you can find it in your heart to donate to our cause.
With your donation we will invest in:
- A new $40,000 pasteurizer, which can process 3-times the amount of milk than the pasteurizer we currently have.
- Additional freezers so we can store the amount of milk arriving daily to our facility.
- And finally, a larger facility to accommodate the extra freezers, refrigerators, pasteurizer, and growing staff.
Make your generous donation today and your name will be listed on our website as one of our lifesavers. You may also join our team and start your own campaign!
Sign up as a friend of The New York Milk Bank, as a life-giving milk donor in honor of the many healthy babies who have received breast milk from their own mom or a caring donor, or in memory of the little ones we have lost.
Tell your story here and we'll share these stories from our many friends as our campaign unfolds.
We will create a special permanent plaque in our new home to honor the work of all donors and campaigners who raise $1000 or more.
Thank you for taking us this far and for your continued support and belief in the importance of pasteurized donor milk for all infants in need.
