Donovan the Greyhound Really Needs His Teeth Cleaned
Organized by: Debbie Merritt
Donovan is a retired racing greyhound who never actually raced. He just wasn't interested in chasing small fluffy creatures! He is 10 years old now and has been with me since January 2006 (thank you Arizona Greyhound Rescue!) He used to be afraid of people, of ceiling fans, even the cat! But now he's a sweet and curious hound who will loudly bark when there is someone at the door. He loves food and digging holes and catching stuffed toys that are thrown at him.
Donovan has been through a lot in the last 8 years. He gained, and lost, a greyhound sister (Marie), then gained another greyhound sister, Butter, and a kitty sister, Goober. He had a foster mastiff sister for awhile while her human was in Iraq, then he had to deal with me being gone to Iraq (but only for a summer). We have moved 5 times, including across the country, and taken many long car rides. In 2010 he got into a fight and had to get his neck stitched up, and then in 2011 he had a mast cell tumor removed.
All of that to say he is an awesome dog who deserves a healthy long life. He is very healthy, except for his teeth. It is well known in the greyhound community that greyhounds need good dental care. Donovan has had his teeth cleaned previously as well as chewing on tons of dental chews, but his teeth have deteriorated. I didn't realize how bad they were until our last veterinary check-up. He hadn't been eating very well and now I know why: his teeth hurt! He has a ton of plaque build-up on his canines and one of his back teeth looks to be broken and infected.
Donovan desperately needs a dental! His teeth need to be cleaned and some teeth will have to be extracted. Financially, this could not have come at a worse time as I am going through bankruptcy and I don't have enough money or credit for such a big expense. I want my Donny-butt to be happy, excited, and healthy for years to come!
