Don't Drill the Hills, Inc. filed legal action against the City of Rochester Hills for signing a lease for oil and gas exploration of City-owned park and cemetery properties.
A major issue is the City Charter stating that city-owned parks cannot be sold/leased or converted to a non-recreation, non-conservation use without approval of the City's voters in an open election. The city council deliberately violated this amendment and signed a lease with Jordan Development Co. without consent of the city's voters.
We need to meet our goal of raising $20,000 by October 8th, 2014 in order to take our case to court. If the lawsuit is successful the lease will be void. This will give a voice to the local citizens and require our consent before oil and gas leasing of our city parks, and allow us to protect our property values, and quality of life.
