Residents Understood was asked to volunteer our design services for a remodeling project at a local safehouse called Doorways. Doorways is a wonderful place that helps women and children displaced due to domestic violence (they even have a place for their pets to stay, too!). The safehouse is a temporary shelter for those who are in danger in their current living situation. Kiera and I will be redesigning a basement bedroom and bathroom that accommodates 5 women and children. The bedroom is very cold, dark, and dreary right now - our goal is to come up with a design that will be a warm, cheerful, and welcoming place for these women and children to live during one of the most difficult times of their lives. The project is completely donation-based, so any bedding, furniture, or accessories that we need to complete our design goal will need to be donated to the safehouse. We are reaching out to everyone in an effort to raise the funds necessary to complete this project and provide the displaced women and children with a cheerful place to sleep and live for a little while. You can even make your donation product-specific and let us know "I'd like this money to go towards some artwork/bedding/shower curtain for the project" - let's make it fun!
