My inspiration for doing this walk and fundraiser is my own son, he struggled for many years battling the demon's of his addiction. It was a gut wrenching pain that way too manyof us have experienced, watching a loved one self destruct before your very eyes and being powerless against it all. I never gave up hope that he would beat this beast. I was guilty of enabling until one day I realized that i was killing him with too much love. I had to watch and pray that God would answer my biggest prayer. My son went into detox May of 2015 followed by a 6 month inpatient treatment program provided by Gateway. Our family is so blessed to have our son, brother, father back from the grips of heroin addiction. Through his own journey I have learned so much much about life, hope and recovery. He has introduced me to many of his "new life sober friends that are also like family " They are all succeeding in recovery, I strongly believe with programs like Attack Addiction raising money, awareness and making strides in the community to change policies and provide much needed treatment for those still suffering we can and WE WILL Stop this Killer Disease and erase the stigma that is associated with it.. Addicts are good people with a horrible disease we need compassion and love. Thank you Sean for teaching me tolerance, compassion and a true unconditional love. You are a great teacher, friend and example that people Can and Do RECOVER! GOD BLESS AND LET'S KICK ADDICTION IN IT'S ASS.
