Imagine attending boarding school as a nine year old because your family cannot care for you. Imagine that your tiny dormitory houses more than 20 girls. Imagine that the dormitory has no electricity or running water. Imagine that the concrete floors have holes to the dirt below and imagine that the roof leaks right on top of your bed. Now, imagine that you are blind. This is the reality for the girls we met at Thika School for the Blind in Thika, Kenya. We traveled to Kenya with Children's Literature for Children, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit literacy organization, and visited Thika to donate Braille books purchased in the US. But, what we found astounded us. The girls loved the Braille books, but they needed so much more! The precious girls are living in terrible conditions and desperately need a new dormitory. Since returning from Kenya, we have raised $10,000 toward the dormitory construction, but must raise $15,000 more to make this dream of a new dorm for the girls a reality. Please consider giving to build a new dorm for the girls at Thika School for the Blind. Please help by donating now!
