Dear Friends and Family,
As you may know, our mother, Dorothy Felton, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in 2012. What was seemingly a typical weekday instantly turned into an event that would forever change our lives. After difficulty breathing, our mother was rushed to the hospital where physicians discovered that she had multiple blood clots in her lungs. Thankfully, we insisted that doctors investigate the cause of the blood clots. Additional tests identified multiple myeloma as the source of the health challenges my mother had faced. Our immediate reaction was one of shock, fear, and sadness. Instantly, we were bombarded with terminology and processes that we knew nothing about but we knew it was important to be strong and knowledgeable so that our mother could overcome this. After speaking with several doctors and patients, attending support groups, and researching the disease, we were able to determine the treatment options we believed were best for her.
When she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma we collectively found a cause we needed to fight for. On Saturday, April 23 the Philadelphia Multiple Myeloma Networking Group (PMMNG) will hold its annual Miles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk at Memorial Hall/Please Touch Museum located at 4231 Avenue of the Republic (formerly North Concourse Drive). We will participate in the walk to raise funds for PMMNG. The money raised will go to research for multiple myeloma and supportive services for patients. We ask that you please join us by making a donation to PMMNG in support of our mother, many others who are living with the disease, and those who have sadly succumbed to it. No amount is too small and we are forever grateful for your generosity and consideration.
