As you may know I started my job as a Program Coordinator with iMentor in August. Being placed with juniors at the International High School at Lafayette was serendipitous for me; I love working with teens from around the world and have done so throughout my career. Our school is made up entirely of recent immigrants (within the past 5 years) to America who are predominantly English Language Learners. I work with the school and their mentors to help each student succeed in high school and prepare for success in college. Working with these students has been incredibly inspiring: they are wonderful people who have endured a lot to get to NYC and continue to persevere as they navigate a new language, culture and school system. I believe in them wholeheartedly and with the support of my 72 awesome mentors I feel empowered to enable them in their various pathways to success. Although there are many obstacles in the way for my students in regards to language, documentation and just generally being a teenager in high school, I know that with the help of their mentors and this program they are being supported in an integral and positive way. I have been fortunate enough to have access to high quality public education in my life, I want to make sure my students have the same opportunities I had and with your support that can become a reality. Please help us continue this awesome work in IHSL and beyond!
