EVENT DATE: Dec 21, 2012
Hi. My name is Renee. My father became sick in August 2010 and was forced to retire early. He was diagnosed with Wegener's Disease. This disease shuts down your lungs and kidneys. Thankfully, it did not attack his lungs. Sadly however, it did shut down his kidneys. With only 6% function of his kidneys, my father has been on dialysis three times a week for two years now. Several people have stepped up to donate a kidney to my father but at some point during testing found out they were not able to donate. This past August I had my blood tested and found out I have a blood type that would match my fathers. I proceeded to the next step and that was to have blood drawn to make sure he did not have any reaction to my tissue. I passed that and in late October I drove from Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Mayo Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for a 3-day long physical. A week after that physical, I got the call that I WAS ABLE TO DONATE my right kidney to my father.
The unique part of this story is that I was adopted after I turned a year old. So for me to be able to donate one of my kidney's to my father is more than a blessing.
The Surgery will be on December 21st and I am trying to help raise money for travel expenses incurred by me and any expenses incurred by my parents during and after surgery.
Thank you for your time reading this and thank you for your generous donation...no matter the amount.
