About 3 years later I was discharged and went to the VA. This was another wakeup call ,the building was a WW 2 something at the location of the new Federal Building in West LA . I was assigned a case worker and end of story granted a rating of 30% disabled status. ($48.00/per month).
I talk with these young men and women and see that the system is about the same , Hope for a change in the VA is always talked about but slow to happen, the system works best if these injuried people are discharged (cheaper) and placed in the VA system which may or may not have beds or services available.
Now to the folks that you don't see damage they have all the "parts" and the wounds are internal and maybe 30 - 40-50 years removed from the war location, but the war is still raging. John the day after Christmas a few years ago went into the bathroom put the 45 to his head and pulled the trigger , John has many friends from the SE Asia days .
If all that is ask we spend a few hours to walk along side these young men and women and show our respect for the effort they did for our Country and in some small way we can say Thank You, For all May the future always be positive and the past recall the good days . Never look back to the dark days.
Please come support The Hero's climb with us to the top, share the day with friends old and new .Thanks Doug
