BENEFITING: D O V E CENTER INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2012
My friend, Toni and I, are going to run the St. George Marathon and have decided to raise funds to help The Dove Center, a domestic violence and rape recovery program. Five years ago, one of my best friends was a victim of domestic violence and murdered by her husband. She was only 36 years old. Running marathons is so much greater when you are running for a reason. We would like to help others by collecting funds for this worthy cause. Our initial goal was set at $750.00 but because of generous friends and family, we have already reached $1725! If all of our family and friends donated, we could easily surpass this number as well. Any amount you are able to donate is appreciated and as a bonus, a small thank you gift will be mailed to you as well! Below is more information regarding The Dove Center - http://www.dovecenter.org.
The Dove Center provides safe, caring, and confidential shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and to reduce the incidents of abuse through prevention education. We're here 24 hours a day with an emergency hotline. We're here if you need a confidential shelter, counseling, justice system advocacy, youth programs, support groups and healthy life skills. We're here to bring hope with open arms, hearts and of course, ears. We're here to provide a place where peace in your life can begin, a place where you can reclaim yourself!
Domestic violence occurs in homes throughout every community. It knows no color, gender, age or socioeconomic status. The abuse can be physical, mental, sexual or emotional. And as a victim of domestic violence, you may feel like there's nowhere to turn. But there is hope.
Sexual assault can be verbal, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. It can happen in different situations: in the home by someone you know, on a date, or by a stranger in an isolated place. Rape and sexual assault are never the victim's fault - no matter where or how it happens. As a victim of sexual assault you may feel like there's nowhere to turn. But there is hope.
