BENEFITING: Feeding America
EVENT DATE: Dec 19, 2010
This is the story of “Lil Butter I guess…
As a young girl I used to be so ashamed of getting free lunch, going to food pantries or having to stand in line with my father to get cheese and powdered milk. As an adult, I see how fortunate I was to have programs like these in place.
Coming from humble beginnings is nothing to be ashamed of. I realize now that I have stories to share that can help raise awareness of great charities and programs like those that have helped families like mine. That is why I want to raise donations for Feeding America.
If it weren’t for programs like these, I would have had a much harder time getting through life and through school to pursue my dreams.
I was looking to write something to express the importance of these efforts and came across this on the Feeding America website, “The problem of childhood hunger is not simply a moral issue. Child hunger hampers a young person's ability to learn and becomes more likely to suffer from poverty as an adult. Scientific evidence suggests that hungry children are less likely to become productive citizens.”
Today, my life is rich, and I feel blessed everyday. Thank you to all who have helped me to get to where I am now. There is no way that I can return what I have been given…but I would sure like to try and help pay it forward to the people in the world who go hungry every day. So, please join me in my effort in spirit, donations or donating time to a charity that is working so hard to feed America.
I thank you all.
