The Downtown Choir Parent Association (DCPA) is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization with the sole mission to support, enhance, and promote the Vocal Program within New World School of the Arts High School.  New World School of the Arts is Miami's public elite arts school, rated a National Gold Medal School by US News & World Report.  This magnet school provides a college-level experiential arts and rigorous academic education to passionate, talented students, preparing them for college and professional careers in the arts.  The school day is more than eight hours long, allowing three hours each day for deep, demanding study of the student's chosen art form.  Graduates of the school include Tarell McCraney (Playwright, MacArthur Genius Grant Recipient), Katie Finneran (Tony Award winning actor), Alex Lacamoire (Music Director, Arranger, Orchestrator of Broadway’s Wicked and Hamilton among others), Robert Battle (Choreographer, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), and Patricia McGregor (Director), among others. Admission is by audition or portfolio review only.   The chorus is led by Dr. Leslie Alan Denning, one of twenty-five semifinalists in 2013 for the first Grammy Music Educator Award.  The fifty high school students in Vocal Performance study classical voice training involving Chorus, Music Theory, Forum, and weekly private vocal lessons.
