Do you have Shannon's back?
Organized by: Shannon Looper
Good news and still need a little more help
March 11, 2016
Shannon lives near Dallas, Texas. By profession, he is a computer geek, one of those Mensan brainy guys who knows lots of stuff and can make computers do things most can’t even imagine. By inclination, he is a community-builder and advocate of transformation.
Shannon likes to explore what makes a difference for people. He likes to share what he learns and has a pretty big social media community. A few years ago, he led a group of three hundred in exploring consciousness and building a real life community of explorers in Dallas.
Shannon took the Landmark Forum in 2006. He was really excited about being in service to transformation, so he became an introduction leader and even a leader among the introduction leaders. He assisted in the Landmark Center by being a volunteer who would assist on: course production, calling teams, Wisdom events, and coaching participants in programs.
In seven years of leading introductions, he made a significant contribution to hundreds, helping them create happier more productive lives.
Shannon’s been confronted with some challenging circumstances in the last few years. Starting with a layoff in 2013, he’s experienced a few periods of unemployment. He depleted his savings and ended up filing for bankruptcy. There were some dark days.
Finally, in May 2014, he went back to work and was making good progress on a payment plan. He managed to refinance his house and it looked like things were really turning around. Unfortunately, that job ended unexpectedly in November.
Then, to add injury to insult, in December 2014, sciatica pain knocked him off his feet and he was bedridden for almost six weeks. Once he got mobile enough to get to the doctor and get x-rays, he found out that he had two collapsed disks. He has pain from his back all the way to his feet. The doctor said he needed spinal decompression three times a week.
Shannon has COBRA insurance from the past job but there is a premium payment every month, and a co- payment for each treatment. As medical bills do, the bills have stacked up for the doctor visits. He also has bills for past MRI and orders for another MRI. Currently the premiums are past due and he has not been able to keep up the treatments for his back.
Initially, Shannon could not go back to work due the severity of the back pain. Even getting up and going to his computer was too painful on many days. This also forced him to withdraw from assisting at Landmark.
The treatment has begun to help and he’s been searching for work and has put himself out there as someone who can build websites and do other piecework while he is looking for steady employment. He has been grateful for support from friends. There is a little hope on the horizon.
Besides the medical bills, Shannon is two months behind on his household bills. He needs help with maintaining his COBRA, covering the co pays for treatment and the fees for imaging and other tests, and covering living expenses. He needs some breathing room.
He also thinks that he might be more employable if he could have some new certifications and he wants to update his skills.
How You Can Help
Shannon’s the kind of guy who is a lot more comfortable with giving than receiving. He’s working on a breakthrough by even posting this.
Can you help him with his breakthrough in receiving help and with catching up his bills by contributing a few dollars?
He has an urgent need since the payments that are behind must be caught up as soon as possible.
Any and all help is gratefully appreciated.
The Long Term Plan
Shannon really does want to get back to work. Here is some of what he can do:
Contract design and development of software solutions --
- Web site design & development with Word Press and other frameworks
- SQL Server database design & T-SQL development
- Web based solutions with ASP.NET
- Industrial segment: HMI & SCADA solutions with Wonderware's Archestra System Platform Suite of products, Industrial Application Server, Historian, Historian Client, Wonderware Information Server, Device Integration, Data Acquisition Servers, Data integration with reporting and other vendor applications
If you know of anyone who can use Shannon's skills, this is the link to his online resume.
PS: In the meantime, if you need a website, get in touch.
Some questions I have been asked about healthcare options:
What about the ACA vs COBRA?
Since I was already paying COBRA, if I stop now I can't enroll in any ACA plan until November for the 2016 year.
Public hospitals or Public Health Service?
I live in Denton County Texas, which has no public health care. Dallas County does have a huge public hospital but only for Dallas County residents.
Medicare or Medicaid?
No, my situation does not qualify me for either.
