BENEFITING: DRAGON MASTER FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: DRAGON MASTER FOUNDATION
I pledged to raise $5,000 for this cause. This charity is for brain tumor research (of course!).
Imagine your life without 1 day of Google. Now imagine you need Google to produce search results, but no one has entered the data - meaning there are no answers. That is the current state of brain tumor research and treatment. Nic's tumor has not been biopsied (on the brainstem is too risky) and luckily the growth has been slow and his initial brain surgery for fluid on the brai...n has held up. Most aren't so lucky, and need the data to answer questions that could save their life.
Hospitals and Doctors keep the data local because there is no shared means to store and share the data. However, that is changing! Dragon Master Foundation (501c3) is working to build a collaborative database and convince the doctors, hospitals, and researchers to put the data so that information is available. Thus far, they have Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Chicago. That's a great start, but they need more help. If this fundraiser (below) gets enough donations, Revlon will chip in millions.
Amanda Haddock is the founder of this foundation. I met her through her blog about brain cancer (using Google) after Nic's diagnosis. Her son passed away from brain cancer, and he was a pretty big fan of dragons and cooking (like Nic). Needless to say, she's got a bone to pick with brain cancer, and cancer in general.
