Hello, my name is Aimerance. I’m from Congo. I trained and worked as an actress there for six years before I came here.
I have an idea to help youth – especially young women. In Nakivale, I often hear about girls who’ve been raped or suffered violence. And I see everyday the problems some youth are having with drugs and alcohol.
So we started a group called Refugee Voices. We perform educational plays on issues facing the community. But, we’d like to reach more young people in the settlement, especially those who’ve been through something traumatic. Our goal is to help them get help at hospitals and offices and understand that there is life after what they’ve been through.
Our idea is to get a camera and microphone so we can make films that can be viewed all around Nakivale settlement, all the time. We also want to bring more young people into our group so they have some productive way to spend their time. We have a small structure where we can meet and practice. But it isn’t complete, it needs a roof.
I hope you can help us train more young people in the power of drama to change our community in Nakivale.
