BENEFITING: A WISH FOR ANIMALS
EVENT DATE: Jul 14, 2013
Emil Chynn MD, ophthalmology’s greatest proponent of LASEK (and his trademarked SafeSight™ technique) of Park Avenue SafeSight parkavenuesafesight.com is no stranger to traveling the world giving lectures on the safety of non cutting laser vision correction compared to the older less advanced cutting LASIK, challenging older precepts on how to best help patients who desperately want to free themselves from glasses and contacts. This time around, Dr. Chynn is facing a new kind of challenge: ascending the Tour de France’s Mount Ventoux in the name of charity.
Mount Ventoux has become legendary as the scene of one of the most grueling climbs in the Tour de France bicycle race. The followed trail mostly passes through Bedoin. Its fame as a scene of great Tour dramas has made it a magnet for cyclists around the world. The mountain achieved worldwide notoriety when it claimed the life of Tom Simpson, who, despite heat exhaustion and dehydration, fought to make it to the top. His last words being, “Put me back on my bike,” led to a memorial to him near the summit which has become a shrine to fans of cycling. Dr. Chynn, who is both an avid globetrotter and a well known philanthropist wants to combine both of these passions by turning this challenge into a fundraising activity for A Wish For Animals.
This year marks the 100th edition of the Tour de France. The race organizers have designed a difficult and unique course that will be sure to test the limits of each participant. This challenging and arduous race that Dr. Chynn has decided to embark on will certainly be the highlight of the 2013 cycling calendar.
